President Dallin H. Oaks teaches that doubts are overcome by drawing closer to the Savior, and that the Book of Mormon shows God’s grace reaches everyone.

President Dallin H. Oaks, President of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, gave this talk, "The Gospel of Jesus Christ Is for All," in the October 2026 general conference. The full text is published in the Church's Gospel Library. His theme is simple: the Savior reaches out to every person, and the way through any struggle is to draw closer to Him.

Whose Church this is

President Oaks begins by explaining why the Church bears the Savior's name. He points to the first article of faith and to the Book of Mormon's witness that salvation comes only through Jesus Christ, and he repeats the invitation found throughout the scriptures to "come unto Christ."

Doubts, patience and two ways of learning

He acknowledges that members carry concerns, questions and doubts, and that resolving them can take time. His counsel is to keep building faith one step at a time through prayer and scripture study, to be patient with others and with ourselves, and to hold on to the first article of faith while waiting on the Lord.

He describes two ways of gaining knowledge: the scientific method, whose findings keep changing, and the spiritual method, which begins with faith in God and relies on scripture, inspired teaching and personal revelation. Because God knows all truth, he teaches, there is no final conflict between the two, and he urges listeners not to let secular learning shrink their spiritual horizons.

Simple protections

He recommends humility, which he describes, borrowing President Spencer W. Kimball's word, as being teachable. He also points to two weekly and regular habits that protect and strengthen disciples:

  • Renewing covenants each week through the sacrament.
  • Regular temple attendance for those who have been endowed.

Grace for everyone

The second half of the talk is a witness from the Book of Mormon that God's grace is not limited to a chosen few. President Oaks cites the Savior's visit to the Nephites, His promise to visit other scattered sheep, and the teaching that the Lord invites all to come to Him and denies none. He testifies that the Lord will one day bring forth the inspired teachings He has given in other nations, and he closes by calling on everyone to act on these truths and share them.
