The Daily Deseret — Sunday, Oct. 25, 2026

Good morning! Today's theme is hearts the Lord can change: a long-empty piece of land in Cody that became a temple site, a broadcast about the condition of our hearts, and a team learning to respond after a hard loss. Here's your quick dose of faith, news, and fun.

🙏 Cody Wyoming Temple Dedicated Today

Elder Clark G. Gilbert of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles dedicates the Cody Wyoming Temple today at 10 a.m., his first dedication as an Apostle, with a rebroadcast at 2 p.m. to congregations in the temple district. The temple sits on land Glenn Nielson received from his grandparents and later donated to the Church. "We have a testimony that the Lord's hand was in preserving that property," he said (Church News).

🗞️ This Morning in the Church

Hearts can be made new. Today's "Music & the Spoken Word" (broadcast No. 5,067, live at 9:30 a.m. MT) is "The heart's condition." It teaches that "hard hearts can become soft" but that "we alone can never fully heal our own hearts. Only the Lord can" (Church News).

"Anytime, anywhere." Church News reporter Mary Richards noticed that phrase in three of the new hymns and links it to standing as witnesses of God "at all times and in all things, and in all places." Two ways she takes His name upon her: using the correct name of the Church and wearing the temple garment (Church News, Mosiah 18:9).

🏈 Game Recap: UCF 39, No. 2 BYU 31 (2OT)

💬 Prophetic Words

"This is the Church of Jesus Christ, so named because it is His Church with the restored fullness of His doctrine and authority in these latter days."

📜 On This Day

Oct. 25, 1838: At dawn near Crooked River in Missouri, Elder David W. Patten of the Quorum of the Twelve led a company to rescue three Latter-day Saint prisoners and was mortally wounded. He died hours later, the first apostolic martyr of the latter days. At his funeral, Joseph Smith said, "There lies a man that has done just as he said he would—he has laid down his life for his friends" (Church History Museum).

📖 Doctrine Deep-Dive: A new heart

The Lord promised, "A new heart also will I give you ... and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh" (Ezekiel 36:26). King Benjamin's people felt that promise fulfilled: the Spirit "wrought a mighty change in us, or in our hearts, that we have no more disposition to do evil, but to do good continually" (Mosiah 5:2). Covenant-keepers become "the children of Christ" because their "hearts are changed through faith on his name" (Mosiah 5:7).

Reflect: What is one way the Lord has softened your heart this year?

🏛️ Temple of the Day: Casper Wyoming Temple

Announced by President Russell M. Nelson on April 4, 2021, this single-story, 9,950-square-foot temple was dedicated by Elder Quentin L. Cook on Nov. 24, 2024, as the Church's 201st operating temple. Its art glass and painting feature the Indian paintbrush, Wyoming's state flower, and its prayer honors pioneers who crossed the Platte River territory (official temple page, Church News Almanac).

❓ Daily Trivia

Yesterday's answer: Constantinople. In 1840 Orson Hyde dreamed of a missionary journey through London, Amsterdam and Constantinople that ended in Jerusalem (Church History Topics).

Today’s question: Before the Cody Wyoming Temple, which house of the Lord was closest to Cody, about a two-hour drive away?
